Kenya’s Floods: A Call To Heed The Warning?
Recent weeks have seen Kenya grapple with devastating floods across the country.
The unprecedented scale of the heavy rainfall has left a trail of destruction – thousands homeless, hundreds perished, and infrastructure damaged beyond millions. As the nation grapples with grief, a sense of foreboding hangs in the air.
The weatherman reports that rain meant for a three-month season now falls in a single day. This has prompted a collaborative relief effort from the government, multi-agency donors, and well-wishers. However, the pain of loss runs deep.

In the midst of tragedy, a coping mechanism emerges. Kenyans, known for their resilience, use humor – memes referencing Noah's Ark, for example – to lighten the mood. While some find humor a comfort, others see a deeper meaning.
The biblical story of Noah resonates with many. Noah, ridiculed for building an ark in preparation for a flood sent by God as a judgment, ultimately finds vindication. This narrative raises a crucial question:
Where is the role of the prophetic voice in times of disaster?

Enter Prophet Elvis Mbonye, renowned and revered prophet based in Uganda. In 24th October 2023, during one of his fellowships , Prophet Elvis Mbonye issued a stern prophetic warning for Kenya. He linked the unprecedented hailstorms to the nation's pursuit of the Religious Regulation Bill and urged leaders to seek God's guidance to avoid catastrophe.

Three months later, Kenya witnessed the devastating floods. This, for some, confirmed the validity of the prophecy. Critics, however, point to environmental factors and climate change. The recent events raise critical questions. Should leaders consider prophetic warnings alongside scientific explanations? Does Kenya's pursuit of the bill represent a spiritual misstep?Should leaders prioritize the voice of prophets over scientific explanations?
His recent pronouncement during his 7th May fellowship, of plagues similar to those in Egypt being witnessed in Kenya should the prophetic voice not be hearkened to further intensifies the discussion Will Kenya heed the prophetic voice, or will it seek solutions elsewhere?
The future remains uncertain. Only time will tell the course the nation pf Kenya will take.
