The Heart-Wrenching Dilemma: Celebrating Martyrs Day Amidst Threatened Faith
As we stand on the brink of another Martyrs Day, the weight of irony hangs heavy in the air. This year, as we prepare to honour the courageous souls who laid down their lives for their beliefs, we find ourselves engulfed in a turbulent storm of uncertainty and fear.

For, while we gather to pay homage to the martyrs, the very foundation of our faith trembles under the shadow of the proposed Religious and Faith Organizations (RFO) policy.
Martyrs Day is not just a date on the calendar; it is a sacred reminder of the selfless sacrifice made by countless individuals who dared to defy tyranny and oppression in the name of their faith. Their stories, inscribed in the pages of history, serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring power of conviction and the indomitable spirit of humanity.
Yet, as we bow our heads in reverence to these brave souls, we cannot ignore the chilling reality that confronts us. The proposed RFO policy threatens to strip away the very liberties for which the martyrs fought and died. It seeks to shackle our faith in chains of bureaucratic control, casting a dark shadow over our ability to worship freely and without fear.
Imagine, if you will, a future where the celebration of Martyrs Day is deemed illegal or subversive by those in power, because the proposed Policy gives them such power. Picture the anguish and despair of knowing that the sacrifices made by our predecessors have been in vain, their memories tarnished by the oppressive hand of censorship and oppression.
How can we, in good conscience, commemorate the bravery of the martyrs while our own faith hangs in the balance? It is a question that cuts to the core of our humanity, stirring emotions of anger, sorrow, and righteous indignation.
As Christians, as believers, as human beings, we cannot remain silent in the face of such injustice. We must raise our voices in defiance, rallying together in solidarity to defend our right to worship as we see fit. For if we fail to heed the call to action, we risk betraying the legacy of the martyrs and condemning future generations to a fate devoid of religious freedom.
So let us not simply commemorate Martyrs Day this year; let us seize it as an opportunity to reignite the flames of passion and purpose within our hearts. Let us honour the memory of the martyrs not with tears of sorrow, but with tears of resolve and determination to stand up for our faith. Let us vow, here and now, to stand united in the fight for justice, religious freedom, and the preservation of our faith, no matter the cost.
