The wonders of the metaverse

Metaverse, omniverse, universe, and interverse so what’s next? Maybe cyberverse or megaverse. Well let’s just say only time can tell.

The wonders of the metaverse

Just recently, I thought I should challenge myself to see just how far my creative imagination could stretch. Playing the role of some kind of demi-god with powers to create my own world, how would it look like and how would it run exactly. This isn’t your everyday business optimization problem and would require one to scratch deeper beyond the surface.

Okay, let’s start with the basics. First, take a deep breath and journey on with me as we labor to complete this formidable task.  Like any good project implementation guidelines, we start with the fundamental 5Ws and 1H. Let’s start with the “who.” My world would contain what I would call ice cream people. Yes, people made out of ice cream, specifically strawberry flavor. The trees, animals and birds would be made of vanilla, while the rivers and oceans would be made of caramel. It would rain icing sugar and the sun would be made from chocolate particles. Their currency would be made of sugar and their houses of gingerbread. By now I am sure you can tell I have quite the sweet tooth. I should probably call my world Sugarverse.

All seems to be complete, but how would my world move from mere figments of imagination to an actual reality? The metaverse just might be the answer to that. The metaverse is a virtual reality space in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. One can simply think of it as a linked perceived virtual universe made of persistent, shared 3D spaces. Big Tech companies like Facebook recently announced heavy investment in this new technology that promises to change the future of the internet.

The impact the metaverse has on the-commerce is absolutely phenomenal. Going back to the world we just created, anyone wishing to be part of the world would simply require to create their own avatar. The avatar would obviously be made of ice cream. Merchants wishing up to set up their virtual businesses in the world would require to purchase land and other materials they would need. The ice cream people would be able to buy and sell in the Sugarverse just as it is in the physical world. An ice cream person would go to the virtual boutique and get some clothes which the avatar can change. In case the ice cream person gets hungry and the avatar’s energy is low they can go to the restaurant and get some grab.

That all sounds like an interesting fantasy child play, which surprisingly to many will be the future of the internet. The value of digital assets and businesses would most likely surpass tangible ones. Imagine owning 200 acres of land in Sugarverse or in another distant world of Pacifica. Values of such could triple in the coming years as more people move digital to own virtual property and assets.

So why should you care?  The wise say the early bird catches the worm. Is it now time for you to think about how to position yourself digitally? How can you position yourself to get the piece of cake while it’s still baking in the oven? This might just be food for thought, but who knows, aren’t all realities are born out of ideas? Perhaps a bit too farfetched, I don’t think so.
